Code of Conduct

At John H. Woodson Junior High School, we are committed to fostering a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment where all students can thrive. Our Code of Conduct ensures that every student understands the expectations for behavior, creating a positive atmosphere for learning. We believe in cultivating respect, responsibility, and integrity in every student.

School-Wide Expectations – R-U-L-E

We live by the R-U-L-E values, which guide how we behave, interact, and approach our academic and personal growth:

  1. Respect ourselves, our school, and others.

    • We show kindness, consideration, and respect for ourselves, our peers, and the school community.

  2. Understand that success requires commitment.

    • We recognize that achieving our goals takes hard work, dedication, and perseverance.

  3. Lead today, creating leaders for tomorrow.

    • We take ownership of our actions and strive to be role models for others, leading by example.

  4. Excel is what we do.

    • We strive for excellence in everything we do, from academics to personal growth. We push ourselves to reach our fullest potential and exceed expectations.

BPIS Program – Building Positive Impact Students

Our BPIS (Building Positive Impact Students) program is designed to promote positive behavior, personal growth, and community building within our school. The program encourages students to make good decisions, build strong character, and take responsibility for their actions. Through BPIS, students are recognized for demonstrating positive behaviors and contributing to a supportive school culture.

  1. Respect for Others
Treat all individuals in the school community with kindness, empathy, and consideration. Bullying, harassment, or discrimination of any form is not tolerated.

  2. Responsibility
Take responsibility for your actions both inside and outside the classroom. Complete assignments on time, follow directions, and care for school property.

  3. Integrity and Honesty
Act with honesty and integrity in all your actions. Cheating, lying, or stealing will not be tolerated.

  4. Safety
Adhere to school safety rules and report any unsafe behavior to a trusted adult. Physical confrontations and dangerous behaviors are not allowed.

  5. Respect for School Property
Take care of all school property, including classrooms, equipment, and shared spaces. Vandalism and misuse of property are prohibited.

  6. Attendance and Punctuality
Regular attendance and punctuality are essential for academic success. Be on time for all classes, and notify the school in advance if you need to miss a day.

  7. Classroom Behavior
Engage in class and be on task. Disruptive behavior that interferes with the learning environment will be addressed.

  8. Dress Code
Wear clothing that is appropriate for the school environment. Avoid clothing with offensive language or images.

Consequences for Violating the Code of Conduct

Students who violate the Code of Conduct may face disciplinary actions, such as:

  • Verbal warning

  • Parent/guardian notification

  • Detention or behavior intervention

  • Suspension or expulsion for severe offenses

We believe in restorative practices to help students learn from mistakes and make positive changes for the future.

How to Report Issues

If you witness or experience any behavior that violates the Code of Conduct, please report it to a teacher, counselor, or administrator. Our goal is to resolve issues promptly, ensuring a safe and supportive school community.

WITT – Practice Conflict Resolution

We encourage students to use the WITT approach when faced with conflicts or challenging situations:

  1. Walk Away – If a situation is escalating, step away calmly to avoid further conflict.

  2. Ignore – Choose to ignore behaviors or comments that are meant to provoke or distract you.

  3. Talk to Someone – Reach out to a teacher, counselor, or trusted adult for support or guidance.

  4. Take Some Time – Sometimes it’s best to pause, take a break, and gather your thoughts before addressing an issue.

This approach helps students manage conflicts calmly and respectfully, maintaining a peaceful school environment.
